The constitutional referendum in Romania suggesting to enshrine marriage as the union of the man and woman in the basic law is recognized as cancelled, Kommersant tells. Only 20% of voters at a turnout threshold of 30% have participated in a referendum. At the same time, according to polls, the initiative is supported by 90% of residents of the country. The referendum has been offered by several tens public organizations which fight for traditional values, they were supported by the Romanian orthodox church. Activists in this way want to prevent possible legalization of same-sex marriages. In Romania the legislative ban on same-sex marriages works now.
